STANDING TALL IN A SLOUCHING WORLD for ATHLETES

How do coaches train athletes to compete within the context of the rules of the game when the other team's coach is breaking the rules to win the game?  Is it all right to intentionally commit a foul to gain an advantage in the contest?  If it is, do athletes know that it is not all right to commit a foul in life (business, classroom, or on the street) to gain an advantage over their non-sport "competition?"  Ethics in sports is not unlike ethics in business ... it just a different playing surface.  If, according to a recent USA Today article, 80% of today's CEO's  were high school athletes, is there any correlation to their ethics today and how they were coached then?  If a coach wants to stand taller than others is he or she willing to risk a win for character development of the player?
